Manufacturing Apprentice – Transformer Winder

  

AMTA are looking to recruit a Manufacturing Apprentice – Transformer Winder on behalf of our well-established client based in Stoke-on-Trent.

 

Established in 1979, our client is an independent, second-generation family owned and operated company which offers a strong commitment and continuous passion for what they do. For over 35 years their engineers have been designing and manufacturing single and three phase transformer products for customers in the UK, Europe and Worldwide, having a well-established reputation as one of the UK’s leading specialists they have fulfilled many contracts for companies such as Alstom, Tata, Corus, Mitsubishi, Siemens and Toyota.


The position is for an Apprenticeship, the position is initially 12-15 months with the possibility of a full-time role at the end of the programme. 


During this time, you will work towards the following qualifications:


· Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standards 

· EAL L2 Diploma in Manufacturing (knowledge and skills)

· English and Maths Functional Skills Level 1 / 2 


General Duties


You will receive training to enable you to carry out the following duties:


· Read and interpret work orders to determine materials needed and winding instructions.

· Select and load materials and machine parts onto equipment used in coiling processes.

· Position, align, or adjust work materials to facilitate winding.

· Operate machinery to wind electrical 

· Wire or strip onto specified components.

· Make quality checks and basic repairs.

· Record production and operational data.

· Mark and tag components so that stock inventory can be tracked and identified.

· Use soldering or micro-welding equipment.

· Adjust, repair, or replace electrical parts to correct defects and ensure conformance.

· Confer with Supervisors to plan or review work activities and resolve production issues.

· Cut, strip, bend wire or busbar using suitable tools.

· Fabricate or Form parts or structures using drills, callipers, cutters or saws.


Skills and Requirements


The ideal candidate will:


· Hold basic numeracy / literacy skills.

· Be able to follow instruction.

· Ability to work as part of a team. 

· Be dexterous with a good attention to detail - This role requires very fine, intricate manual work, similar in precision to threading a cotton thread through the eye of a needle. Many tasks involve handling small components, winding materials with accuracy, and performing repetitive actions where steady hands, good hand–eye coordination, and excellent fine‑motor skills are essential. Candidates should feel comfortable working with delicate parts and maintaining focus on detailed processes.


Working Hours 

Monday – Thursday 7am – 4pm, Friday – 7am – 12noon (30min break) 

Total hours paid: 38.5 

Hourly Rate: £8
